Top Ten Hip Hop Albums of 2010

July 4th, 2011

Although 2010 isn’t through quite yet with a few big releases expected before the new year (Kanye West’s “Good A** Job,” “My Beautiful, Dark, Twisted Fantasy,” and also a full album with Jay-Z) I thought I could do a round up in the top Hip Hop albums so far.

ten) Lil’ Wayne – I am Not a Human Being:

What year would be complete without a release through the prolific Lil’ Wayne? While I’m not a big fan of Weezy’s new stuff (this album included), I have to respect the following that he has established for himself. His work ethic, releasing a new mixtape practically every last week it seems, is a lesson for all rappers trying to break into the game-the far more you put yourself out there, the greater your returns.

9) Rick Ross – Teflon Don:

Another big release this past summer was Rick Ross’ Teflon Don. Yet another album that, though it could not be his best, is worth noting for its effect around the Hip Hop world. Two tracks by producer Lex Lugar made the final album and started a scramble to get this young producer’s sound on all new Trap albums

8) Chiddy Bang – The Preview:

A new name around the Hip Hop charts this year, Chiddy Bang broke onto the scene with their track “Opposite of Adults.” Chalk this up as another rap album for college kids since the tracks have widespread appeal for casual rap fans. A feature by Q-Tip on an electro, 8-bit track gives this album some street cred as well.

7) Big Boi – Sir Lucious Left Foot:

As 50 percent of Outkast, you know thatany album that Big Boi releases is going to become pushing the boundaries in the genre. Nevertheless, once again, Big Boi accomplishes this while staying true to the roots in the genre and creating catchy tunes throughout.

6) 9th Wonder – It’s a Wonderful World Music Group, Vol 1:

Legendary producer 9th Wonder has just released a compilation album with features from Skyzoo, Actual Proof and 9th himself. As you would expect, the album is chock full of real hip hop music, bangin’ beats, and tight rhymes.

5) Nas and Damian Marley – Distant Relatives:

In my opinion, one from the best collaboration albums in Hip Hop history, this album is a journey through each Hip Hop and Reggae. Organic and creative beats, catchy hooks, and undoubtedly well-written rhymes make this album an instant classic.

four) Celph Titled and Buckwild – Nineteen Ninety Now:

Like 9th Wonder, Buckwild is one of those legends of Hip Hop production. So when he releases an album, real Hip Hop heads pay attention. His latest release with Celph Titled is true to form. Conscious rhymes around hard drums, back by well-flipped samples.

3) B.O.B. – The Adventures of Bobby Ray (Deluxe):

“Nothin On You,” “Magic,” “Past My Shades,” and “Airplanes.” Need I say far more? With some with the best tracks of 2010, no list would be complete without BOB.

2) Eminem – Recovery:

Last but not least, a good album from Eminem post breakdown. This album brings us back to the days of old. Eminem’s flow is on point as always, but the rhymes are once again talking about stuff that matters, while the hooks are still catchy.

1) Drake – Thank Me Later:

It’s not just about every year that one from the most innovative Hip Hop albums can be one on the most commercially successful. Rapper/singer Drake’s Thank Me Later is one of those rare occurrences. With a majority from the beat’s created by fellow Canadian Noah “40″ Shebib, the sound was each unique and catchy. And Drake’s clever one liners and catchy hooks had been the perfect compliment.

History of Rap Music

July 4th, 2011

It may seem to be a daunting task to trace back the history of rap music and history of bossa nova, though you can see one similarity—informal music associated with highly informal dance style. As far as origin of rap music is concerned most people agree that it is Afro-American and Latino Street culture of New York City. Not only this city but the surrounding areas as well that have influence of African people and their culture.

If we see it carefully, then we will definitely notice that rap music rhyming poetry combined with heavy drum beats and music usually sung at higher pitches. Most of the time rap music is associated with chorus sung by another performer in their original traditional pop, rhythm and blues. Though, rap music was primarily an American music style with African influence over music and lyrics, but recently it has been spread evenly to almost entire world.

There is hardly any country or nation, where rap music can not be seen in some form or other. Perhaps this is one of the most sought after music styles amongst the youngsters. However, when it comes to trace back the history then it is believed that hip hop and rap music started in the early 70s and during the late 70s and early 80s it gained much popularity not in America but throughout the world.

The history of rap music and hip hop music is full of controversies and bans, as the lyrics revolve around sex, drugs and crime; even the most famous pop stars and hip hop musicians and singers were found to be associated with several controversies in their life. For that reason, no matter how popular this music style was or still is, but it has always had a bad reputation in the eyes of mainstream society and its people around the world. Sometimes it gang culture is also criticized along withy it dirty lyrics. Unfortunately or coincidently one of the members of the Last Poet was sentenced to prison and  he wasn’t able to perform for their second album later within a year.
